Rules behind the cards

Four details prevent most effect mistakes

  1. 01

    Command levels

Amplifiers begin at zero: amplifier 0 is level I and amplifier 1 is level II.

  2. 02

    Replacement, not addition

Two copies of one named effect do not simply add levels and durations together.

  3. 03

    Removal

Milk clears all removable effects; honey targets Poison without wiping the rest.

  4. 04

    Edition formulas

Strength, Weakness, Haste, replacement behavior, and exclusive effects can differ between Java and Bedrock.

Effect questions

Commands, removal, stacking, and the 1.21 omen flow

Status effects look simple until levels, replacement, undead inversion, editions, and the new omen transitions interact.

What does effect amplifier 1 mean in a command?

Command amplifiers are zero-based. Amplifier 0 creates level I; amplifier 1 creates level II.

Do effects with the same name stack?

Not by simply adding every copy. A stronger or longer version takes priority according to effect rules; Java can preserve a hidden weaker effect on some entities, while Bedrock handles replacement differently.

What removes status effects?

Milk clears all removable status effects. Honey removes Poison specifically, which lets other active effects remain.

Why does Bad Omen not start a raid immediately in 1.21?

Bad Omen now converts to Raid Omen when entering a village. Raid Omen provides a 30-second preparation period before the raid starts; trial spawners instead convert it into Trial Omen.
